News Farewell visit of H.E. Jill Morris CMG, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to San Marino 25 November 2021

This morning the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari has welcomed at Palazzo Begni Her Excellency Jill Morris CMG, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to San Marino, on her last visit as an accredited diplomat to the Republic.

After meeting several Government members yesterday and in the morning, the Ambassador met with the Minister, with whom she discussed several issues.

Beccari stressed the value of the relationship between San Marino and the United Kingdom, especially in the light of the meetings held in recent months both in the Republic and in the context of  the COP26 in Glasgow.

During the meeting, the topics covered in the context of the various visits by UK institutional and parliamentary representatives were recalled, with particular reference to major strategic sectors, including energy, waste management, mobility, finance, the judicial system and the multilateral agenda. Ambassador Morris emphasised that action is already being taken on the issues raised and that her successor will spare no efforts to facilitate the further strengthening of the cooperation already in place.

An extensive and constructive discussion also took place about the respective management methods for the fourth wave of the pandemic and about 'booster' doses. The Minister recalled the encouraging data regarding the administration of the third dose in San Marino and expressed the hope of achieving an excellent result.

The visit to San Marino by the High Diplomat was also an opportunity to sign an important Memorandum of Understanding, thanks to which the two countries undertake to strengthen cooperation in five specific areas: cooperation within international organisations; cooperation on climate change, energy and biodiversity; cooperation on justice, security and regulatory practices; cooperation on trade and investment; and promotion of links with civil society, youth, culture and higher education.

Subsequently, the Ambassador was received in private audience by the Captains Regent, Francesco Mussoni and Giacomo Simoncini, who emphasised her fruitful mandate, full of positive results achieved.
