News Visit to the Republic by a delegation of San Marino All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) and by some British entrepreneurs 12 October 2021

A delegation of San Marino All Party Parliamentary Group and some British entrepreneurs arrived yesterday in San Marino. Their visit confirms the attention and willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation at the broadest institutional level.

Following the visit by Hon. Jeremy Hunt to San Marino a few days ago, today's visit is part of a growing process of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. In the morning, the British parliamentary representatives were received at Palazzo Begni by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari, with whom they discussed the many areas of existing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

At the end of the meetings, the Chairman of San Marino All Party Parliamentary Group, Mr. Andrew Rosindell, and three of the entrepreneurs who have contributed to promoting the Republic abroad, Prof. George Holmes, Dr. Dominic Johnson and Prof. Nadey S. Hakim, were directly awarded by Minister Beccari with an Honour of the Equestrian Order of Saint Agatha.

Subsequently, the British delegation had an extensive discussion with San Marino delegation led by Minister Beccari and composed of the Ambassador of San Marino to the United Kingdom Silvia Marchetti and Consul Maurizio Bragagni.

The talks focused on cooperation in the fields of health, trade, tourism, culture and finance, as well as on the interest in exploring common processes within Europe, given the respective status.

In the context of the very cordial meeting, particularly significant was the effective willingness to establish a constant and fruitful dialogue, at parliamentary and institutional level, in order to carry out strategic cooperation activities to effectively relaunch the historic bond between the two countries.

Subsequently, both delegations went to the Government Building to attend the Audience granted by Their Excellencies the Captains Regent Francesco Mussoni and Giacomo Simoncini. The latter delivered their speeches in English, thus confirming the cordial relations between the two countries, which are unique in that they are the oldest Monarchy and the oldest Republic in the world.

The willingness was also confirmed to carry on an open dialogue and exchange of views between the two countries in their ability to advance the respective political and economic agendas in the current post-Brexit period.

Hon. Rosindell also emphasised both countries’ shared love of freedom and their willingness to promote a significant acceleration towards new cooperation projects.
